Hospital Codes

Each hospital has a code which every nurse has to follow. The codes will usually be located near the telephone. At Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital the codes are located next to every phone. If they are first to encounter the problem there are appropriate actions for the nurses to follow. These are the codes maybe other hospitals may have extra codes but this is Sir Charles Gairdner’s codes.

Code Red – Fire/Smoke
Code Orange – Evacuation
Code Purple – Bomb Threat
Code Black – Personal Threat
Code Yellow – Internal Emergency
Code Brown – External Emergency
Code Blue – Medical Emergency
